    Sales tax collections in Burnet and Bertram experienced a downward trend this month, though the county's other four cities all reported sales tax growth, and five of six cities in the county have total sales tax distributions above last year's pace. Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced he is sending cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts $817 million in local sales tax allocations for November, 5.4 percent more than in November 2017.

All cities in Burnet County experienced sales tax growth this month, with four cities all seeing double-digit percentage hikes.

    After holding a workshop concerning a budgeting shortfall for the Hill Country Humane Society, Burnet City Council voted to donate $25,000 to the animal shelter to help cover expenses for the 2018 fiscal year at their regular meeting held Tuesday, July 10. The HCHS, located 9150 Ranch Road 1431 in Buchanan Dam, operates with assistance from Burnet and Llano counties, as well as the cities of Burnet, Bertram, Horseshoe Bay, and Sunrise Beach as resources and operations are costly. The $25,000 donation will bring the total amount of funds provided by the City of Burnet to about $58,000 for fiscal year 2018.

    Burnet County commissioners voted 4-0, with one abstention, to give an extra $25,000 to the Hill Country Humane Society to help offset expenses for fiscal year 2018 during a regular court meeting Tuesday. Burnet County contracts with the Hill Country Humane Society in Buchanan Dam to provide animal shelter services, as does Llano County and the cities of Burnet, Bertram, Horseshoe Bay and Sunrise Beach.

    The body of a 38-year-old white male from Austin was recovered Wednesday, July 4, from the Llano River arm of Lake LBJ in Kingsland after the man apparently drowned trying to swim across the lake. Llano County Sheriff's Chief Deputy John Neff said his department received a 911 call about a missing swimmer at 2:55 a.m. Wednesday.

    The Llano County Sheriff's Office said it could take months to get answers on skeletal remains found April 1 on a large ranch in the western section of the county. Sheriff Bill Blackburn of Llano County said a family member of the ranch owner discovered the skeletal remains while riding around on a remote area of the property on an ATV.

    The addition of several retail outlets in Marble Falls and an influx of shoppers has helped the county's largest city reach double-digit gains in sales tax revenues for the month of December, Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced. Marble Falls continues to lead Burnet County in sales tax revenue and set yet another record for December as Hegar's office returned $678,388.28 to the city from sales made in October by businesses which report monthly.
