    VMware Inc. and its partner Carahsoft have agreed to pay $75.5 million to resolve allegations that they violated the federal False Claims Act, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. VMware, the Palo Alto-based cloud and virtualization software company that's a subsidiary of Hopkinton, Massachusetts-based EMC, and Carahsoft Technology Corp., a Virginia IT solutions provider for federal, state and local government agencies and educational institutions, were accused by a whistleblower, former VMware vice president Dane Smith , of making false statements to the government in connection with the sale of VMware products and services under Carahsoft's government contract.
