    The Homer Foundation recently provided funding to support the Homer Head Start program operated by the Rural Alaska Community Action Program, Inc. Funds will be used to purchase new seat belt restraints for the Head Start Program's bus. The program bus transports children to and from the center, four days a week.

On Jan. 12, the first regular meeting of the 2015 had council members asking questions about a resolution to use the funds to "get the ball rolling" concerning the new public safety building.

    Hoping to get people out of hibernation and into nature, the Kachemak Bay Research Reserve held its sixth annual Ice Fishing Clinic at Islands and Ocean on Dec. 30. A room with four stations chalk full of information was open for two hours for residents to educate themselves on the chilly sport. Topics included what tools are used during the activity, what fish can be found on the peninsula, and where, and regulation surrounding winter fishing.

Bill Walker announced in a press release that he believes "adequate regulations" will be in place in the timeframe originally expected by voters for the recent marijuana initiative. The release described a meeting between Department of Commerce, Community and Economic Development, the Department of Revenue and the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board and Gov. Walker, with "interdepartmental efforts" producing promise for those waiting with bated breath to see plans rolled out for the initiative in a "timely manner."
