    A Sarasota woman was sentenced to 18 months probation for fighting in January with Holmes Beach police officers after being stopped for a hit-and-run on Key Royale. Jeanna M. Gibson, 27, had faced 10 years on two second-degree felonies, battery to a police officer and resisting arrest with violence, as well as a misdemeanor count of leaving the scene of a crash.

Officials conducted the detailed evaluation following a bevy of property sales in recent years - primarily to speculators - as the market recovered from a recession that began in 2008 The 2015 total market value of each island city increased more than 18 percent over 2014.

    A call from a concerned citizen led to the arrest of a Holmes Beach man for driving under the influence. David B. Paduani, 68, was arrested at 6:30 p.m. June 7 in the 800 block of Gulf Drive South in Bradenton Beach after a police officer on vacation observed Paduani "driving all over the road," according to a Manatee County Sheriff's Office's probable cause affidavit.

    The Florida Department of Environmental Protection is looking to work a deal with the Holmes Beach property owner accused of illegal tree trimming. Jose Vivero of Tampa allegedly contracted with Miguel Guevara of Sarasota's Sunset Tree Service to cut a 50-by-30-foot swath of seagrape trees to half their height at a public beach access across from Vivero's rental property, Casa Del Mar, 4301 Second Ave. In May, DEP sent out investigator Steve West, who determined the cutting, on public property and private land owned by Vivero's neighbor, was against state environmental laws.
