    In order to provide scholarships for underserved children to attend summer camp and underfunded schools to afford class trips to Beaver Brook's Wisconsin businessman David Woods has promised the grant if Beaver Brook Association can match it. Woods, who grew up in Pepperell, Mass., with his friend and long-time Beaver Brook naturalist Pete Smith, has issued the challenge in honor of his friend, who helped pioneer the concept of scholarships to Beaver Brook.

    I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to each and everyone in the Brookline and Hollis community for their overwhelming support of the Hollis Brookline High School's FIRST Robotics team as they brought their successful season to a close by qualifying for and attending the FIRST Robotics World Championships in St. Louis, Mo. The mentors' mission on Team 1073 is to grow our students, and as it takes a village, we reached out to our village, and our village was right there for us! Thank you all so much! We were able to bring 42 students and mentors to the World Championships, a new experience for many, and we don't know when we will have the chance again.

    Volunteers from Hollis Zoo New England and friends around the country are organizing a bike ride and walk in memory of Hollis native Jonathan Gilmour, a former zookeeper at Zoo New England's Franklin Park Zoo, who passed away at the age of 29 in 2006. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Jonathan Gilmour Memorial Scholarship Fund, which awards annual grants to support the ongoing education and professional development of individual staff members at Franklin Park Zoo in Boston, Mass., and Stone Zoo in Stoneham, Mass.
