  5. Paper Carrier suffers loss of brother while delivering morning newsRead the original story

    Tuesday Dec 15 | Topix

If you are one of the residents in Hinton that get a Sunday Register - Herald delivered to your doorstep, you may have not received this past Sundays edition. This was the case for many Hinton and New River road customers as the local carrier suffered a great loss that morning while his customers anxiously waited for his arrival. David Mcdonie serves as a contractor to deliver the Register- Herald. Although most people, including subscribers to newspapers across the world, don't put much thought into the process of how their morning paper got on their doorstep that day, David has been faithfully taking care of the subscribers in the Hinton and New River road area for about a year now. Although this job is not seen as a glamorous position and not seeked out by many, David has taken pride in his work and completes his job in a precise timely manner each day. One doesn't realize the care and terribly strenuous hours a paper carrier works to get them the news each day. For the most part a carrier services their customers on a daily basis for a minimal fee. In the early morning hours of Sunday while working in less than desirable road conditions, David's only brother, Carl Mcdonie was bringing David a more suitable vehicle to finish his paper route, namely a small Suzuki suv. It was in these early morning hours while most of us were still in bed that tragedy struck David and his family. David reportedly went up Route 19 looking for his brother after speaking with him earlier to meet and switch vehicles. While traveling down this dark lonely highway, he saw the vehicle seemingly parked on the side of the road. David circled around after not being able to stop on the icy road on the initial pass with an erie feeling in his thoughts. When he got to the vehicle, his deepest fears were realized. He approached the vehicle and after shaking his brother and yelling his name, watched as his lifeless body slumped forward revealing a pool of blood in his lap. He now realized that his only brother and closest friend was dead. It is a sad tragedy that this happened to such a carefree and honest person. One can only imagine how difficult it must have been to be the one to discover the loss of one of their siblings in such a manner. It isn't known how many people passed by the accident in those early morning hours before David's horrific discovery.
