    An annual gift from Ted Kruttschnitt of Hillsborough will fund 60 scholarships for students at the three San Mateo County Community College District schools, including CaA ada College in Redwood City, above Sixty community college students in San Mateo County each will receive a $6,000 scholarship for up to two years, thanks to the largest single scholarship donation in California community college history. Hillsborough philanthropist Ted Kruttschnitt created the program with a $372,000 annual gift to benefit students at Skyline College, CaA ada College and College of San Mateo.

    A Peninsula woman was sentenced Thursday to four months in jail for selling counterfeit purses and watches worth thousands of dollars, according to San Mateo County prosecutors. Krizia Wong, 50, of Burlingame and Hillsborough, pleaded no contest in May to two counts of felony possession of counterfeit goods.

    A Hillsborough woman and a pair of co-defendants pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges that they murdered Millbrae resident Keith Green and dumped his body in Sonoma County. Tiffany Li, Kaveh Bayat and Olivier Adella are scheduled to return to court Oct. 6 for a preliminary hearing, said San Mateo County Chief Deputy District Attorney Karen Guidotti.

    A water crisis three decades in the making came to a head this week when East Palo Alto's city council imposed a moratorium on development until the city can increase its historically meager water supply. For the past 14 years, the city has used nearly all of its annual water allotment, making it increasingly difficult for East Palo Alto to approve new developments, unless they can essentially provide their own water.
