    The Denton County Transportation Authority will provide free shuttle service for this weekend's 31st annual Highland Village Lions Club Balloon Festival that will be held at Unity Park from Friday through Sunday. The free shuttle service is open to the general public and will operate from 4:30 to 10:30 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday.

    DCTA officials announced that they have discontinued the agency's "on-demand" rider service in northern Lewisville and Highland Village, instead offering more service through Lyft, an app-based ride-hailing service. In a designated zone that covers roughly the area north of FM407 to the lake in Highland Village, and east of Interstate 35E and north of Main Street to the lake in Lewisville, riders can use DCTA-sponsored discounts from Lyft.

The first crash, reported at 12:16 a.m. in Denton, left 22-year-old Denton resident Matthew Luedecke dead after a Ford sedan T-boned his Toyota SUV at the intersection of Malone Street and West University Drive.

On Monday, April 16, DCTA staff will be on hand from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the lobby at Lewisville City Hall, 151 W. Church St. On Wednesday, April 18, DCTA staff will be in the lobby at the Downtown Denton Transit Center from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. The center is located at 604 East Hickory Street and is the northern terminus of the A-Train line.
