    Minnesota's first "Freedom Rock," which stands outside the Kasson American Legion building, was officially dedicated on Labor Day, in between heavy rain showers that sent participants scurrying to find shelter minutes before the scheduled time. In an emotional highlight to the half-hour ceremony the rock's artist, Ray "Bubba" Sorensen II, accepted the ashes of veteran Carl Mergen, added them to paint and painted them on a portion of the rock as Gabby Thomas sang "America the Beautiful" with the audience joining in.

    As the sirens from the fire truck headed down the main drag of Hayfield, Kalli Jo Klocke rode in the fire truck proudly as she headed off the to the State Track and Field Meet at Hamline University on Saturday, June 9, to compete in the pole vault. Kallie Jo represented Hayfield High School and her community proudly by not only placing third out of 17 competitors, but also breaking the school pole vault record not once, but twice! Last year she set the school pole vault record at 9-04.
