    Troopers say a 2013 Nissan Rogue driven by 48-year-old Kim Dewberry of Doyline, was traveling south on LA 157 when it struck 29-year-old Michael Morris Jr. of Haughton. According to troopers, Morris was walking in the south bound lane near the whit fog line.

    Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for 53-year-old Charles Elvis Philyaw of the 200 block of South Foster Drive in Haughton. Philyaw is facing a charge of simple burglary after $80,000 worth of equipment was taken from a storage building in the 3100 block of U.S. 80. Detectives say the building was burglarized on 2 occasions in early March.

    Act 22, which Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards signed May 10, designates the state Highway 154 bridge over the south end of Lake Bistineau as the Officer Thomas LaValley Memorial Bridge." District 9 state Rep. Dodie Horton, R-Haughton, says they chose the south end of Lake Bistineau because the bridge crosses an area where the avid angler loved to fish.

    According to LSP, preliminary reports suggest that a 1999 Honda SUV driven by 37-year-old Wesley Wise, was traveling west on US 80 when for unknown reasons, it lost control, crossed the median and collided head-on with an east bound 2012 GMC truck driven by 21-year-old Jake Pennington, of Haughton. Troopers say Wise was not wearing his seat belt and suffered fatal injuries.
