    Insurer Commits $5M for Current and Past Insureds to Supplement Awards from the State's New Captive Insurance Foundations Remediation Program Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Attorney General George Jepsen today announced that the State of Connecticut has entered into a memorandum of understanding with Hartford-based Travelers Companies, Inc. to provide supplemental financial assistance to current and former Travelers policyholders who file claims and receive awards to remediate their crumbling concrete foundations through the state's new captive insurance program. Under the agreement, Travelers will establish and administer the Travelers Benefit Program and commit $5 million to the program.

Malloy today announced that his request for a major disaster declaration in connection with the severe rain and flooding that impacted parts of the state on September 25 and 26 has been approved for public assistance for Middlesex and New London Counties, including the Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan Tribes. Today's announcement means that state agencies and municipalities in those counties will receive financial assistance from the federal government to help pay for eligible costs incurred as a result of the severe rain and flooding.

Malloy today announced that he has filed an appeal with the Federal Emergency Management Agency in connection with the May 15 tornadoes and storms that heavily impacted parts of Connecticut, requesting that the denial of individual assistance for homeowners in New Haven and Fairfield Counties be reversed. Malloy today announced that the recently completed, third westbound lane on I-84 in Waterbury, stretching from Washington Street to Austin Road, will open to drivers for regular use beginning on the night of Friday, September 28. A newly created, third eastbound lane on the highway opened for use at the end of August. Completion of the new third lanes of travel in each direction means that the Connecticut Department of Transportation is on track to complete the I-84 Waterbury Widening Project one year ahead of schedule.
