Prosecutor Vicki Melchiorre and public defender William O'Connor made closing arguments to the jury Monday morning, then Judge David P. Gold explained the law. Deliberations began about 2 p.m. and ended shortly before 5 p.m. The jury will resume its work Tuesday morning. 1 comment

Robyn Porter, D-New Haven, who said she was conflicted about addressing the crowd at the state Capitol because of criticism from other black women that the rally excluded and discounting them and remained silent on causes like maternal and infant mortality, police brutality, mass incarceration, unemployment and drugs - issues that she said disproportionately affect black women and families.
