    A trial date has finally been set in Kings County's long-running lawsuit challenging whether California's high-speed train project complies with the 2008 bond act for the system. Sacramento County Superior Court Judge Michael Kenny will hear arguments Feb. 11 in the case filed in late 2011 by John Tos, Aaron Fukuda and the Kings County Board of Supervisors against the California High-Speed Rail Authority and a raft of state government officials, including rail authority CEO Jeff Morales , Gov. Jerry Brown , and the state's treasurer , finance director, controller and transportation secretary.

    A man suffered major injuries early Wednesday morning when he was struck by a late 1980s or early '90s Nissan pickup while crossing 13th Avenue north of Flint Avenue just northwest of Hanford, the California Highway Patrol said. The CHP said the driver of the pickup failed to stop after hitting the man, whose identity was not provided.

    Hanford police are searching for a woman who they say broke into another woman's home, beat her up and fired a gun at her son on Sunday. Detective Ryan Tomey said that Amelia Marie Ibarra, 37, of Lemoore, and three other unknown suspects broke into a home in the 400 block of East 10th Street in Hanford around 6:45 p.m. Debra Gonzales, 57, was immediately punched and kicked by Ibarra and two other female suspects, while her son, 32-year-old Donald Doyle, was knocked to the ground by a male suspect.
