    It was a strange meeting last week in Hampton as all members of Hampton County Council met to discuss the county's budget, among several issues, during a regularly scheduled meeting and later fielded questions from Council Chair Shedron Williams during the public comments portion of the meeting. A county official later commented that a chairman addressing council during public comments is anything but a regular occurrence at a county meeting.

    During a Yemassee Town Council meeting tonight, Yemassee Police Chief Gregory Alexander gave details about a 10 a.m. high speed chase which began in Hampton and ended in Yemassee. According to Chief Alexander, an elderly woman was driving a vehicle when she began suffering from the affects of Dementia.

    Mr. Eddie Hugh Drawdy Jr. of Lowndes Lake Road near Varnville, died Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at his residence, after an extended illness. Mr. Drawdy was born October 30, 1964 in Hampton county, a son of Mary Louise Cook Drawdy and the late Eddie Hugh Drawdy Sr. He was a Gang Saw Operator with Elliott Sawmill in Estill for 28 years, enjoyed fishing, hunting, and especially watching Nascar Racing.
