Deputies say investigators discovered Legwin and Smith had posted the stolen items on buy, trade and sell web sites.

    There are still 11 days of Christmas to go, but many of you may already be taking down your decorations. So what do you do with your Christmas tree? In New Hanover County, free Christmas tree recycling begins today and runs through Feb. 1. You can drop off your tree during daylight hours at one of four locations: The Brunswick County Landfill will accept Christmas trees for recycling from county residents and property owners for free starting Saturday and running through Jan. 30. You can also take your Christmas trees to a county convenient site, but there is a $5 per tree charge at those locations.

    The Surf City Police Department responded to several vehicle break-ins, larcenies, stolen cars and a burglary between November 6 and 11. Detectives arrested Matthew Thomas, 16, of Surf City, Bryce Teachey, 17, of Hampstead and John Robert Calloway, 19 of Hampstead. Thomas faces 11 counts of felony Breaking/Entering Motor Vehicle, 2 counts of Felony Larceny of Motor Vehicle, 2 counts of Felony Breaking/Entering Residence, 1 count of Felony Larceny after Breaking/Entering, 1 count of Felony First Degree Burglary and 3 counts Larceny, 2 counts of Contributing to the Delinquency of a Juvenile, 1 count of Felony Larceny of Firearm, 1 count of Felony Possession of Stolen Firearm, 1 count of Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia.
