Two members of the local bar have signaled their interest in filling an open Circuit Court judgeship with the pending retirement of Halifax County judge Joel Cunningham Sr. Among the contenders for the position are S. Anderson "Andy" Nelson of Clarksville, who currently presides as a judge with the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court in the 10th Judicial District, and Nora J. Miller, Mecklenburg County Commonwealth's Attorney.

Echelon wants to buy the site from the county for $1 and invest somewhere between $2.5 and $2.8 million to renovate the building as market rate apartments.

White, who served as Halifax County Commonwealth's Attorney before she was elevated to the circuit bench in 2012, has arranged to take over for Cunningham, who announced this month he would retire on April 1. Since joining the judiciary following her August 2012 appointment by former Gov.
