    The two-time defending Central Coast Section champion Menlo-Atherton girls wrestling team opens its season in a big way this weekend, hosting the Bear Bash Girls High School Wrestling Tournament on Saturday, scheduled to run between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. One of the fastest growing sports in the country, M-A has been a trendsetter in the area, growing from a single wrestler less than six years ago to finishing fourth in last winter's state championship in Visalia. The Bears return all three state medalists in Fola Akinola , Lauren McDonnell and Abby Ericson .

    Sam Untrecht continued his recent scoring spree, finding the back of the net eight times Saturday and the Menlo School boys water polo team captured its fourth consecutive Peninsula Athletic League title and 22nd over the past 24 years, beating host Menlo-Atherton, 18-7, in the championship match of the league tournament. Untrecht, who sat out the fourth quarter, scored 19 goals in the three tournament games and added 10 in a previous game as the Knights secured their 26th overall title.
