Despite a recent flurry of salmon action below the Farallon Islands, bottomfishing remained the constant along the San Mateo coastline. The New Rayann and Outer Limits out of Sausalito put in a total of 32 salmon to 15 pounds fishing south southeast of the main Farallon Island, while the El Dorado III out of Berkeley posted 14 limits of salmon in the same area, but the bite quickly slowed due to another round of wind. Comment?
The earlier-than-normal rockfish opener along with the April 4th ocean salmon opener have the harbor buzzing with activity, as party boats and private skiffs are gearing up for the first action for species larger than sand dabs in the past several months. The Queen of Hearts out of Half Moon Bay Sport Fishing will start rockfishing on April 1 below Pigeon Point and salmon fishing on the opener. Comment?
The weather conditions were outstanding over the past weekend, and Captain Tom Mattusch of the Huli Cat out of Pillar Point Harbor reported good action for limits of Dungeness crab and some sand dabs for the B and B Norcal Fishing Club on Saturday, February 21st. He said, "The trip started off with 25 yard visibility in the fog, but we ran towards the Separation Zone where during the week there were good concentrations of birds and bait during the week.
