    Hagerstown. She was a graduate of Hagerstown High School. Connie earned her bachelor's degree in English from Purdue University and her master's degree in library science from Indiana University. She worked at Morrisson-Reeves Library and in the libraries at Indiana University East and Crestdale Elementary. Connie worked as an administrative assistant for the Richmond Police Department for over 15 years. She attended St. Paul Episcopal Church. Connie enjoyed reading and spending time with her family and grandchildren. Survivors include her children, Sara (Alan) Cloutier of West Lafayette, Indiana, Barbara (Jim) Ellison of Richmond, and Erich Gerhard Ess of New York City, New York; grandchildren, Logan Edward Ellison, Edmund Scott Ellison, Cameron Ess Cloutier, and Colin Gerhard Cloutier; sister, Sara (Jim) Hershauer of Arizona; nephews, Jeff (Cindy) Hershauer and Mike (Stacey) Hershauer; cousins; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Gerhard Georg Ess, who died on April 9, 2014, and parents. Visitation for Constance Ann Ess will be from 4 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 16, 2015, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Private services will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to: Morrisson-Reeves Library, 80 North 6th Street, Richmond, IN 47374 for the purchase of mystery novels as well as children's books or Richmond Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 63, P.O.
