    The husband of a woman fatally shot in a hospital said he saw his stepson point a gun at her and fire several shots before walking away without saying a word, according to a police complaint released Wednesday. Travis Frink, of Warwick, Rhode Island, pleaded not guilty to a first-degree murder charge in the death of his mother, 70-year-old Pamela Ferriere.

    Authorities say a baseball bat was found on the property of a Massachusetts home where officials say a recent college graduate killed his mother, his grandparents and a caregiver.     The mystic chords of memory described by Abraham Lincoln in his Gettysburg Address were touched anew at Webster Lake on Sunday.  A monument to the Slater Guards, a company of volunteers from Webster and Dudley that fought for the Union in the Civil War, was dedicated at Memorial Beach.  More than 150 years later, America's Civil War past remains a living thing - particularly, of late, with regard to public commemorations of the Confederacy.  Confederate re-enactors at Webster Lake on Sunday declined to comment on the current-day controversies over Confederate statues in the South and the recent white supremacist rally in Charlottesville protesting the planned removal of a monument to Robert E. Lee.  “I have no opinion on it,” said Tom Sommer, 59, of Groton, who was portraying a private in the 7th Tennessee Infantry.

    Police and farmers in Massachusetts continue to conduct a multi-town search for a bull that escaped from a livestock auction earlier this week. The animal, which weighs more than 1,000 pounds, was sold in Littleton late Tuesday, but got loose as it was being loaded into a trailer.
