    In a game between Eastern Carolina Conference rivals, South Lenoir defeated Ayden-Grifton 6-5 in extras in the first round of the NCHSAA 2A state playoffs. Kennedy bunted with two on in the bottom of the eight and sprinted to first, colliding with Chargers' first baseman Zach Swanson, who couldn't hold on to the ball, allowing Jason Deaver to score the winning run.

Horner reached base on a one-out walk in the frame and after the bases were loaded with two outs, scored standing up after a Clay Wilson pitch got away from Chargers catcher Avery Cauley.

The Vikings not only had an 11-game winning streak snapped, but also a 10-year run of making it to the regional finals and the hopes of a fifth straight state title put to rest after the fourth matchup between the two teams.

Damian Dunn scored 14 points and Anthony Berry Jr. added 12 as Kinston defeated Eastern Wayne 56-45 in a rematch of Feb. 1. The Vikings won the first matchup 63-49 and got a tough test the second time around before pulling away.
