    As students were arriving to school just before 8 a.m. Wednesday, a vehicle in front of Greenbrier Eastside Elementary School struck a 9-year-old student. Principal Jeana Williams said the third-grade student appeared to be in stable condition and was taken by ambulance to Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock.

    A small cottage on Hendrix College campus occupied by John Raney and W.F. Karsteter, students, was destroyed by fire at 8:30 o'clock this morning, the fire originating from a heating stove. All the personal belongings of the students, including their schoolbooks and those of Ludwick Waldrip, who was preparing to change rooming places, were destroyed.

    A recount Thursday of the votes cast in the Faulkner County races for tax collector and sheriff revealed the same results - Sherry Koonce defeated Melinda Marple for the Republican nomination as tax collector while Tim Ryals and Rocky Lawrence will go head-to-head in a runoff election to gain the party's nomination for sheriff. Ryals received a little more than 49 percent of the votes with 8,779 while Lawrence received 4,601 votes, which amounted to nearly 26 percent.
