    Greenbrier Chamber of Commerce will host the annual Hometown Holiday celebration Saturday starting with a 5K run at 10:30 a.m. Dig out your ugliest sweater to wear for this year's theme "Ugly Sweater"--the uglier the better. The Greenbrier High School marching band will lead the parade as they step off at 2 p.m. Santa will be present for pictures with the kids along with plenty of candy.

    According to State Police reports, on Saturday afternoon at 3:26 p.m., Billy T. Hendrix, 38, of Malvern was struck by a vehicle driven by Charles Williams, 48, of Bee Branch. Williams was driving north on Highway 65 just south of Greenbrier when his vehicle ran off the road and struck Hendrix.

    Three cheers to the students who did so well on their 2014 Benchmark and End-of-Course exams, combined with high achievement growth on those tests as to get $202,719.57 coming to the Greenbrier schools, as follows: In all, $7 million from the Governor's share of the state General Improvement Fund in Arkansas School Recognition and Reward Program funds will be distributed in the coming weeks to 235 of the state's more than 1,000 schools for high achievement. The highest-performing ten percent of schools--of which there were 109--are eligible for $90 per student in reward funds.
