The juvenile dolphin that became stranded on Grand Isle last fall was released into Barataria Bay last week, after a months-long rehabilitation effort by local and national wildlife organizations.

BHP Billiton's donation will be paired with other funding dedicated to help fund the last phases of the improvement project and complete the 19-mile long elevated highway from Golden Meadow to Port Fourchon.

    Louisiana State Police said they arrested a Grand Isle man who is a registered sex offender on counts of attempted rape and conspiracy to commit first degree rape on Thursday. Trooper First Class Jesse LaGrange, a Louisiana State Police spokesman, said LSP detectives, along with Homeland Security Investigations-Houma and the Houma Police Department, arrested Wade Perkins III, 30. LaGrange said in a press release that state detectives "received information" that Perkins was trying to purchase a 6- to 8-year-old girl for sexual purposes.
