This has been a summer of vertical hiking. Thomas and I have tromped around the 8,000-foot high steamy valley at Bumpass Hell in Lassen Volcanic National Park, gazed from the 6,000-foot top of Frazier Falls near Graeagle, and explored an historic cabin in Portola at about 5,000 feet. Comment?
