Since last October, more than 100 volunteers from the Potsdam Humane Society and Gouverneur's Friends 4 Pound Paws and Yellow Lake Rescue raised over $17,000 by participating in a unique fundraising opportunity provided by the catering service Centerplate, a hospitality partner of the New York state Olympic Regional Development Authority in Lake Placid.

    Three North Country residents were charged Wednesday with arson following two separate investigations of fires that were first reported to state police in May. Remington E. Bell, 18, Richville, was charged with two counts third-degree arson and two counts of fourth-degree conspiracy at 12:50 p.m. at 2683 U.S. Highway 11, troopers said. Robert J. Bell, 20, Richville, was charged with two counts of third-degree arson, two counts of fourth-degree conspiracy and third-degree tampering with a witness: false testimony, officers said.
