    A Gouverneur woman found guilty following a non-jury trial for arson was sent to prison Monday in St. Lawrence County Court. Mary E. Yerdon, also known as Mary E. McIntosh, 51, of 316 W. Main St., formerly of 230 E. Main St., downstairs, Gouverneur, was sentenced to 2½ to 5 years in prison for her Aug. 22 conviction of third-degree attempted arson, the reduced count of third-degree arson, for which she was tried.

    An overwhelming start by undefeated Gouverneur Central marked the beginning of the end of the 2018 season for the St. Lawrence Central varsity football team on Saturday in the semifinals of the Section 10 Class C playoffs. Reeling off 29 unanswered points in the first quarter, the host Wildcats went on to post a 54-14 decision over the Larries at Frank LaFalce Field and will now get set to host second-seeded OFA in the championship game on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. OFA is the defending Class C champion and Gouverneur won the Class B crown last season.
