    Earlier edhat reported a 2.8 magnitude earthquake around 12:30 p.m. Less than an hour later, two more earthquakes struck in the same area. At 1:32 p.m., a 3.2 magnitude earthquake struck 13 km south-southwest of Santa Barbara and a 2.6 magnitude earthquake struck 18km south-southwest of Santa Barbara.

    In response to last year's search for the mysterious release of hydrogen sulfide in western Goleta, the City of Goleta purchased a highly-sensitive H2S monitor for Fire Station 11 that will help first responders more quickly locate future sources of these potentially dangerous odors. The new Jerome J605 H2S Detector is significantly more sensitive - over 6,000 times - at detecting Hydrogen Sulfide than what is currently used by the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, enabling firefighters to locate and address potential problems faster.

    Two suspects believed to be responsible for burglarizing a residence in the unincorporated area of Goleta near North Beaches and a business in the city of Goleta were arrested Tuesday night after resisting arrest. At approximately 6:30 p.m. on Monday, April 24, 2017, deputies from the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office Goleta Valley Patrol Bureau Patrol responded to a residence on Arroyo Quemada Lane after a homeowner returned to find two suspects fleeing from his residence.

With the support of a diverse array of public agencies, UCSB is working to revive and preserve wetlands on the upper Devereux Slough, which some 50 years ago was filled with soil to make way for Ocean Meadows Golf Course.

    In 2013 a big, beautiful sign went up in an empty lot near the corner of Hollister and Kellogg Avenues announcing an exciting new project -- the future park in Old Town, but what has happened since that day the sign was erected? The Parks & Recreation Commission has worked closely with staff and the community to design a facility to meet the needs of today and the future for the residents of Old Town. The park design is based on public input from various workshops and stakeholder meetings.

    At 3:00 p.m., Santa Barbara County firefighters responded to Goleta Beach in the Campus Point area for the report of two kayakers in distress. When crews arrived they found the kayakers approximately one mile off shore, unable to get in on their own, reports Captain Dave Zaniboni The Fire Department's Water Rescue Team arrived on scene launching three jet skis to help retrieve the kayakers.

    Today is National Day of Silence - a student-led day of action in which participants take a vow of silence to spread awareness on the effects of bullying and harassment of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender students. This movement was began in 1996 when Maria Pulzetti of University of Virginia organized the event, because she "wanted to do something for BGLAD week that would impact many people at the school and that would be very visible."

    The crew of Santa Barbara's Stardust Sportfishing boat rescued two stranded kayakers off the coast of Goleta on Easter Sunday. The fishing crew noticed a man and a woman in the water with their kayak drifting in the background, approximately three miles out from Devereaux and Isla Vista, reports KEYT News.
