    Units responded to the report of a structure fire at 341 Santa Rosalia Way, the location of a residential care facility for the elderly, in Goleta at 12:17 a.m. They found a shed behind the main residence fully involved in flames, reported SBCFD Captain Dave Zaniboni. The shed, approximately 10 x 15 feet in size, was used mostly for tools and storage.

    The Goleta Police Department Traffic Unit will be conducting a DUI/Driver's License Checkpoint this Friday night, April 15, 2016 at an undisclosed location in the City of Goleta between the hours of 6:00 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. The deterrent effect of DUI checkpoints is a proven resource in reducing the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol or drug involved crashes. Research shows that crashes involving an impaired driver can be reduced by up to 20 percent when well-publicized DUI checkpoints and proactive DUI patrols are routinely conducted.

    On April 17 from 9:00am - 11:00am, the staff at the Santa Barbara Veterinary Group will be holding a free clinic to help Pets of the Homeless at Pershing Park, at the intersection of Cabrillo Blvd and Castillo St. The veterinary staff will be administering preventative medicine; vaccinations, medical examinations, and flea and tick control. Santa Barbara Veterinary Group will also be providing items such as pet beds, leashes, collars, flea products and high quality food which have been donated.

    The Goleta Union School Board is currently deciding whether to implement a policy that could negatively affect a quarter of all school children entering kindergarten. The new policy, which assistant superintendent Dr. Margaret Saleh is advocating for, would enforce a murky California code that takes away parental rights when it comes to deciding whether a child is ready for kindergarten.

    The District Attorney has formally charged 26-year old Oceanside resident, Pierre Haobsh, for the murders of the Han family while the Sheriff's Coroner released the official cause of death. The Santa Barbara Sheriff's Coroner's Office has completed their autopsy investigation in the case of Dr. Weidong Han, his wife Huijie and their daughter Emily.
