    The Director of the State Department of Transportation has informed the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors that Highway 101 along the Gaviota Coast is California's newest officially designated State Scenic Highway. The designated segment travels through one of the longest remaining rural coastlines in Southern California along 21 miles of Highway 101 from the City of Goleta's western boundary to Route 1 at Las Cruces.

    The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office credits an anonymous tip for the discovery of a Goleta residence where a number of suspects were allegedly using and dealing narcotics. Following an investigation by Santa Barbara County Sheriff's detectives with the Special Investigations Bureau, a total of eight people were arrested on December 13, 2016 and more than $6,000 worth of methamphetamine and heroin were seized.

    Over the past summer and fall months, teams of heroic volunteers have been venturing down into Goleta's urban creeks in an effort to remove the vast amount of accumulated trash before winter rains wash it to the ocean and local beaches. Led by the Environmental Defense Center , volunteers were able to remove an astounding 3,717 pounds of trash from ten local creeks.

    Sheriff's detectives from the Special Investigations Bureau identified 58-year-old Robert Pilbin and 56- year-old Leslie Brooks as a Heroin traffickers operating in Goleta and Santa Barbara. Through further investigation, detectives determined the couple was residing in the 400 block of E. Cota in Santa Barbara.

    On Friday, December 9, 2016, at approximately 5:00 p.m. Santa Barbara County Sheriff's deputies responded to a mobile home park in the 7400 block of Hollister Avenue in Goleta to a report of a male subject in his underwear who was demonstrating erratic and violent behavior. Sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene and identified the subject as being 43-year-old Thomas Brostromrich, a resident at the mobile home park.
