    Fish in Goleta's Atascadero Creek will breathe easier now that Santa Barbara County has committed to cleaning up water pollution from its South Coast Recycling and Transfer Station, according to Santa Barbara Channelkeeper, a local environmental watchdog group. In late July, Santa Barbara County signed a settlement agreement with Channelkeeper to prevent the discharge of polluted stormwater runoff from the Transfer Station, a seven-acre waste and recycling facility located at 4430 Calle Real in Santa Barbara.

    Work continued on the piles for the new Goleta Beach Bridge this week. MCM Construction began putting up the columns around the piers/piles on the south side of the slough and constructed the forms that will be used for the abutment.

    The Goleta Police Department Traffic Unit will be conducting a DUI/Driver's License Checkpoint this Friday night, September 9, 2016 at an undisclosed location in the area of Goleta between the hours of 6:00 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. The deterrent effect of DUI checkpoints is a proven resource in reducing the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol or drug involved crashes. Research shows that crashes involving an impaired driver can be reduced by up to 20 percent when well-publicized DUI checkpoints and proactive DUI patrols are routinely conducted.
