    A woman and her five children were rescued by concerned bystanders when their van slid into the icy waters of Upper Girard Lake Tuesday morning. The mom told 21 News that she was driving when the van went out of control and flipped over onto its side along the edge of the lake at Niles Vienna and Scoville North Roads in Vienna Township.

    First responders were called out this morning after Trumbull County 9-1-1 got a call that a car had flipped over onto its side along the banks of Girard Lake. The first rescuers on the scene said that four children and the driver escaped from the vehicle as it was filling with water along Niles Vienna Road near Scoville North Road at around 8 am Tuesday.

    Federal officials have arrested two Valley men accused of receiving a package from China containing enough of the powerful opiate fentanyl to kill hundreds of people, according to U.S. Attorney Justin Herdman. Authorities say Michael B. Lawrence, 43, of Youngstown, and Dainon L. Jones, 37, of Girard, have been arrested and charged with attempted possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute after the men allegedly accepted a package from China that they believed contained approximately 273 grams of methoxyacetyl fentanyl.
