    Starting with early-morning rainfall in the North Bay, the much-anticipated Pineapple Express picked up steam on Friday, washing over the entire Bay Area with showers from Gilroy to Orinda and beyond, prompting flood alerts in the Santa Cruz Mountains and bedeviling motorists across the region as they tried to make it to work and back home again. It was a long and gradual process, as the so-called “atmospheric river” that had been building for days over the Pacific Ocean slowly made its presence felt in the San Francisco Bay Area, out to Yosemite and Lake Tahoe and south to Big Sur.
