    Chico >> On Monday, Chico will be the California Water Commission's first stop in a series of informational meetings on investing in water storage as part of Proposition 1. Several parties with diverging priorities on the issue are planning to attend the 5:30 p.m. meeting at the Chico Elks Lodge, 1705 Manzanita Place. State Sen. Jim Nielsen, R-Gerber, said it was important for people to attend and show there is local and statewide support for the long-planned Sites Reservoir near Maxwell in Colusa County and the Temperance Flat Dam on the San Joaquin River east of Fresno.

The bill will appropriate $19 million from the State's General Fund to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife for its use in fulfilling outstanding Payment in Lieu of Taxes payments owed to counties.

In a news conference on the steps of the state Capitol last week, the lawmakers urged the president - who was in Silicon Valley for a cybersecurity summit that day - to invoke the Taft-Hartley Act, if necessary, to help the two sides reach an agreement in their nine-month-long contract negotiation.
