    The Gaylord City Council unanimously approved an option and sale agreement with a New York-based firm Wednesday to continue the process of converting the former Sibley East School site into a medical school. After the $10,000 option price is made, it will create a fund for the City of Gaylord to use for TIF district-related costs including a $5,000 inspection report and $8,000 to Northland Securities, a Minneapolis brokerage firm.

    The Prairie Lakes Regional Arts Council is pleased to announce that grants of $105,100 from the Arts and Culture Heritage Fund have been awarded to seventeen arts organizations, community groups and schools in the region. New Ulm Suzuki School of Music received $8,000 and will hire clinicians for its semi-annual Summer Pops Camp and Piano Institute; and will pay a portion of the director's salary for their season of rehearsals and concerts in 2015.

    A former backup goaltender for the Minnesota Fighting Saints, Minnesota North Stars and Detroit Red Wings, Carl Wetzel of Gaylord, MN may be best known for leading the U.S. National hockey team at the 1967 Ice Hockey World Championship in Vienna, Aust Earlier era hockey enthusiasts may recall him as the guy claimed by Montreal from Detroit in the Reverse Draft, June 9, 1965. In theory purpose of the draft was to allow minor league teams to draft talent from NHL clubs, clubs who had poached their players for a long time.
