    Michigan oil and gas industry organization leaders are pushing back against calls for shutting down the controversial Enbridge Line 5 pipeline under the Straits of Mackinac, saying the oil pipeline is necessary to keep Michigan energy costs low. On Monday, July 24, members of seven different industry groups defended a continued reliance on the aging underwater pipeline, which opponents fear could rupture and spill oil into the Great Lakes where Lake Michigan and Lake Huron meet.
