    Gastonia's own "Mule Man," Harvey Lee Beaty, died May 18. In addition to his daughter and grandchildren, Beaty left behind his mules, Tommy, Polly, Strawberry, Plum, Kate and Festus. Beaty was a Marine Corps veteran and retired as a maintenance mechanic at Freightliner in Mount Holly, but he was best known as the "Mule Man" for his hobby of being pulled about town in his buggy by a team of mules.
