Wendy Hartling has been hoping to tell her story to Congress since she learned last year that the man charged with fatally stabbing her 25-year-old daughter in June of 2015, was a Haitian national that had not been deported after serving a 16-year prison sentence for attempted murder.

Elizabeth Davis, 20, of 28 Lochdale Drive, Oakdale, was driving northbound when she lost control of her car and traveled through the southbound lane before hitting a stone wall and then the tree, according to police.

    Norwich - As a bill that would allow community colleges to have armed security guards on campus works its way through the General Assembly, the Governance Council at Three Rivers Community College is polling students, staff and faculty on whether they would feel safer with armed guards on campus.  The survey, which started last week, is ongoing with no set deadline date, said Kathryn Gaffney, director of marketing and public relations at the college.   But the issue has been on the minds of students since at least Oct. 1, when a student gunman killed nine people in a classroom at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Ore., then killed himself after being shot by police.
