    To help promote Fruitport High School's upcoming musical production of "Cinderella," a character breakfast is scheduled to take place in the Fruitport Middle School cafeteria, 3113 Pontaluna Road, from 9-11 a.m. on Feb. 28. Students who will perform as Cinderella, Prince Charming and the step-family in the production will be dressed in character at the event which includes a pancake and sausage breakfast, face painting, crafts and souvenirs. Tickets for the fundraiser event are on sale at Fruitport High School for $3 through Feb. 27. They are available at the door for $5 each or $20 per family.

    The state maritime archeologist will dive for a better look at an old wreck that two Muskegon County men say could be the Griffin, the earliest known shipwreck on the Great Lakes. "We're looking at having our state maritime archeologist look at the wreck with the gentlemen who discovered it," Sandra Clark, director of the Michigan Historical Center, said Monday, Feb. 9. "We've agreed we'll try to find a date to do that."

    MUSKEGON, MI The athletic programs at Fruitport and Spring Lake have been approved for admission into the OK Conference starting in the 2016-17 school year, it was announced Wednesday, Feb. 3. Both schools, current members of the Lakes 8 Activities Conference, were approved 45-3 in a vote of the high school principals of the 48 member schools of the OK Conference that is the biggest athletic conference in the state. A 3/4th majority was required to receive approval to join the OK and that was easily reached.

Philos Foods, LLC, which produces natural Greek yogurt in an array of fruit flavors and special varieties, along with J&M Machine Products, Lakeside Surfaces and Intelligent Machine Solutions were approved for tax breaks that met the deadline for application for tax breaks to become effective in 2015.
