    As the University Interscholastic League Academic State Championships came to a close this week with speech events Monday and Tuesday at the University of Texas in Austin, several Panhandle students earned medals: Muleshoe's Giovanni Ceja won a gold medal in Class 3A poetry, and Wyat Parker won gold in prose interpretation. Dylan Ringo of San-Ford Fritch took home the bronze medal in class 2A poetry.
