    A fisherman accused of trying to secretly catch lobsters and his sternman have been charged with multiple fishing violations, according to state officials. Duston Reed, a 34 year-old lobsterman from Waldoboro, was arrested Aug. 18 by the Maine Marine Patrol and taken to the Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset.

    Police say speed is believed to have played a role in a car crash early Thursday that was so violent the engine was ripped from the vehicle and ended up in the middle of the road. The driver, Joseph Solomon, 39, of Waldoboro, suffered broken bones and cuts and was flown by a LifeFlight helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

Sevon was sentenced by Justice William Stokes in Knox County Unified Court to one year in jail with all but 30 days suspended for domestic violence assault.

Acting on information of a potential bail violation, deputies from the Knox County Sheriff's Office, agents from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, and officers from Waldoboro and Thomaston police departments responded to a residence on Back River Road in Friendship and found a large party, according to a news release from the Knox County Sheriff's Office.

Upon arrival, Fire Chief Paul Smeltzer observed heavy smoke coming from the residence and called for mutual aid with crews from from Friendship, Warren and Union responding.
