    Princeton police arrested a Four Oaks man Tuesday and charged him with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of a South Carolina man on April 2. Marcus Anthony Currie, 26, of 292 Buck Dunn Road, in Four Oaks, was arrested at his residence, without incident, at 11:40 a.m. by Princeton police and officers with the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation, N.C. Department of Correction Parole Division and the Johnston County Sheriff's Office. Currie was arrested following an investigation into the deadly shooting of Michael Lorenzo Joyner, 34 of Columbia, South Carolina, who was found lying face down in the road with gunshots wounds to the head, hand and both legs.

    A fife and drum corps from Camp Flintlock in Four Oaks slowly marched in misty rain across the grounds of the Governor Richard Caswell Memorial Saturday in celebration of the historic site reopening.  Inside the visitors center where artifacts from the 18th-century are kept, reenactors in colonial costumes explained displays of weapons and gear soldiers used in the Colonial era while a woman demonstrated a spinning wheel and a surgeon answered questions about old medical instruments laid out on a table before him.  Donna Tart of Newton Grove took photographs in the small room, enjoying a view of the past. Her son Caleb who works at the CSS Neuse Museum and loves history, encouraged her to go to the reopening.

At their Sept. 22, 2017, meeting, the N.C. Historical Commission voted to postpone any decision regarding the petition from the N.C. Department of Administration to relocate the three monuments until their April 2018 meeting.
