    Ottie Lee Bates Frech passed away July 4, 2018, at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Utah, at the age of 86. Ottie, also known as Nan, was born in Ashland Nov. 18, 1931, to Issac and Philippine Bates, the oldest of two children. Ottie was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, James Harry Frech; brother, Fred "Bud" Bates; and parents, Issac and Philippine.

    Northwestern State University selected two servicemen, Eric Lee and Staff Sergeant Spencer Greene, for the coin toss and to serve as honorary captains for the Homecoming football game Oct. 21. Lee is an NSU graduate who served in the Air Force from 1988-1998 where as an Airman he provided supply management and supply systems analysis. At NSU, he was a four-year letterman in track and a member of the 1985 and 1987 championship track teams.

    A 10th Mountain Division Soldier with 710th Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Polk, Louisiana was killed Sunday October 1 in Ninawa Province, Iraq, the result of injuries sustained when an improved explosive device detonated near his convoy. Missildine joined the Army in July 2015.
