    Josh Gallup of Mayfield High School and Olivia Lazarou of Amsterdam High School have been named winners of the Fulmont Roadrunners Club's annual Cross-Country Runner of the Year Awards honoring the year's top male and female cross-country runners in Fulton and Montgomery County high schools. For their achievements, the two high-schoolers received special recognition at the Fulmont Roadrunners' annual Winter Wimp foot race held Saturday in Hagaman.

Since opening Nov. 17, Rush said all eight beds have been occupied about 90 percent of the week by individuals, families or couples in need.

    Wendy Alvira, 37, of 19 Lark St., first floor, was arrested Tuesday and charged with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance for allegedly selling crack cocaine, and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance for allegedly being in possession of 14 grams of crack cocaine -- both Class B felonies. She was also charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.

    At 4:53 p.m., emergency notification went out to police, fire and rescue agencies that a fire had broken out at 6316 Route 10. First to arrive on the scene were Montgomery County Sheriff's Department Deputy Luke Paine and Canajoharie Police Officer Ed Hernandez, along with members of the Canajoharie Fire Department, one being an immediate neighbor. Resident Robert Shear was found unconscious in a room adjacent to the fire.
