    A missing hiker who was rescued early Monday morning was unprepared to spend a night in the woods - much less two - but he may have saved himself by building a makeshift shelter to stay dry during Sunday's cold, wet weather. Richard Guinan, a 40-year-old soldier stationed at Fort Drum, climbed St. Regis Mountain Saturday morning and successfully made the summit before heading back down the trail.

    Sixteen years ago the Don Petty Memorial Re-Open Golf Tournament was established to honor the memory of Don Petty who was a long time football and basketball official and baseball umpire who had a love for Section 10 Athletics and its athletes which knew no bounds. The tournament was also founded to help his widow, Joyce Petty, meet her financial responsibilities and also to raise funds for worthy causes in Section 10. When Joyce Petty died she asked that money raised for the tournament go to sponsor a scholarship to the Brian Leonard Summer Football Camp to a deserving player from each Section 10 Football programs.
