    Uniformed re-enactors and civilians alike gathered at the quadrangle behind the Fort Devens Museum on Saturday to honor the centennial of Camp Devens, as well as the United States' entry into World War I. "We figured we'd give people a little taste of what it was like and sort of the whole overall view of what the Great War was like," said Kara Fossey, director of the Fort Devens Museum. Fossey said the museum wanted to do something special to commemorate the building of Camp Devens in 1917 while also recognizing that it has been 100 years since the U.S. entered World War I. Fort Devens Museum Director Kara Fossey takes a seat in one of the 1920s cars displayed during this weekend's celebration of the 100th anniversary of Fort Devens.

It's an anniversary worth celebrating as the beginning of a century that would leave indelible marks on well over 1 million soldiers, civilians, and residents.

    Three guest speakers will talk about restoring something of the past on Saturday, May 20, as the Fort Devens Museum holds its annual Armed Forces Day celebration open house from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Jack Wilson will take his listeners through a process of finding and identifying the remains of U.S. soldiers declared missing in action in Europe during World War II. In his presentation, "Remembrance and Search," to start at 2 p.m., he will relate how he himself became involved in helping advise other families about the process, and he will explain about his journeys across the country and overseas, where he meets with those who lost loved ones during this war and with those who live amongst the scarred battlegrounds.
