Greg Van Patten said few other details could be released about the investigation, however, as the cause and manner of death have not been determined and are pending toxicology results, which may take weeks.

The unprecedented closure is due to domoic acid, a substance which is produced by microbes in the persistent algae blooms off the West Coast this year and collects in the body tissues of sea life.
