    County elections staff is still finalizing vote tallies, but reported late last week that 4,456 ballots in the Fourth Supervisorial District and 4,456 ballots in the Fifth Supervisorial With 3225 voters registered in the City of Fort Bragg, the 1582 outstanding votes and 448 counted votes make a voter turnout of 63 percent. The elections office has 30 days after the election to finalize results.

    On Monday, at about 4 a.m., a member of the family who shares use of a residence north of Fort Bragg left the home. At about noon, another family member arrived at the unoccupied residence and found it occupied by a “strange, naked, male subject asleep on their couch,” according to a Mendocino County Sheriff's Office press release on the matter.

    Cleanup plans for the central area of the Fort Bragg millsite, slated to become one of the redeveloped site's central recreational areas, were outlined by representatives from the Department of Toxic Substances Control at a Town Hall workshop June 2. The area, known as Operating Unit E in the cleanup plans, includes the former main mill pond and the site of the mill's powerhouse, which is the source of much of the dioxin located on the site. It also includes a group of holding ponds which held powerhouse waste on the south area of the millsite, as well as a strip of land behind the wooded area on the site's eastern edge is also included in the latest work plan.

    A woman was killed yesterday afternoon when an allegedly intoxicated driver crossed the double yellow lines and slammed into her 2016 Beta Motorcycle westbound on Highway 20. At about 4:45 p.m. on Sunday, Jesse Bourdeaux, of Dios Rios, was driving his 2006 Ford F250 eastbound on Highway 20 east of mile post marker 8.22. According to a California Highway Patrol press release on the matter, Bordeaux's level of intoxication was such that he lost control of his vehicle.

    Authorities arrested a Fort Bragg 14-year-old last week for allegedly being in possession of a stolen vehicle. Just after 6 p.m. on Wednesday, deputies with the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the report of a male juvenile who was vandalizing a vehicle in the 29000 block of Highway 20. It was reported that the juvenile was using a screw driver, a crowbar and a hammer to vandalize a gray minivan parked on the edge of the roadway.

    A revised draft environmental impact report has been posted for the Central Coast Transfer Station project, and a public meeting has been scheduled for June 16. The Mendocino Solid Waste Management Authority is collecting public comments on the draft until June 24. The June 16 public meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at the Fort Bragg Town Hall. Although the Mendocino County Board of Supervisors has been invited to attend, it will not be a joint meeting between the Fort Bragg City Council or the board as in the past.

    At the request of the Public Safety Committee, the City Council has directed staff to move forward with crafting an ordinance that will modify zoning to allow medical marijuana manufacturing as a conditionally permitted use in the light and heavy industrial zones in Fort Bragg. The committee has been reviewing the matter for months in response to sweeping state legislation known as the Medical Marijuana Regulation and Safety Act that was signed into law by Governor Edmund Brown on Oct. 9, 2015 and became effective Jan. 1. RootOne Botanicals, Inc., a company run by local entrepreneurs, are the first to have expressed interest in operating a cannabis concentrate manufacturing company within city limits.

    After 57 years on North Franklin Street, the Fort Bragg Advocate-News - also the offices of The Mendocino Beacon - have moved to a new location, 690 South Main Street, on the northeast corner of Cypress Street and Highway 1. After weeks of preparation, the move took place over a harried weekend, with the highlight being transportation of a 3,000 pound, 143-year-old safe down Franklin St. via forklift by Jim DiMauro. After some first-day computer and phone glitches, the new office is up and running, a cozier space with a much brighter atmosphere.
