    Grant County residents woke up to the chill in the air on Monday morning meaning winter is well on its way, and planning is underway for Wreaths Across America Day, held this year on Saturday, Dec. 15. The day is when Grant County residents will gather to honor veterans during the Christmas holiday season as part of the annual national Wreaths Across America Day. This is the ninth year for Grant County's ceremony, which was first started by an El Paso Air Force veteran, Ron Groves.

    The weather held out and it turned out to be a great afternoon for the village of Santa Clara's 150th birthday celebration. Two hundred to three hundred people turned out, said Village Clerk Sheila Hudman, for cake, performances by several DJs, bands, Western New Mexico University's Mariachi Plata and the Silver Stompers, a horseshoe and huachas tournament, a car show, a mechanical bull for the kids to ride, and more than 30 food and craft vendors with plenty to offer everyone.
