    A 10-year-old border collie will live out his last years in the home of a Flanders veterinarian after a couple tried to kill the dog with a BB gun because they could no longer afford him, police said. Keith M. Ropp, 26, of the Flanders section of Mount Olive, and his girlfriend, Carly M. McBride, 24, of Long Valley, walked Scout to a wooded area adjacent to Drakesdale Road in Mount Olive Saturday and Ropp shot the dog six times with a BB gun in an attempt to kill the dog, according to a criminal complaint.

    An 18-year-old female died of injuries suffered in a pre-dawn, single-car accident along Interstate 80 west Sunday morning. The driver, a 20-year-old male, was attempting to exit the highway just after 3 a.m., when his 2015 BMW veered off the ramp at Exit 26 and onto a grassy area along the ramp's left side, where it struck several trees, according to Trooper Alejandro Goez.

At 2:15 p.m. Friday, June 1, a Mount Olive officer responded to Walmart in Flanders to speak to loss prevention regarding a shopper who was in their custody.

    An adult and juvenile from the Flanders section of the township were arrested on drug charges after township officers were conducting a search for the missing juvenile, police said. Dominic J. Moyano, 18, and the juvenile, only identified as a 17-year-old male due to his age, were both charged with possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia and under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance.
