    One tugboat crew member died and three others were rescued Saturday when their boat sank in icy and stormy waters about a mile off Fire Island, authorities said. One of the crew members managed to make a cellphone call to the Coast Guard at about 2 p.m. as the tugboat Sea Bear was sinking, said Coast Guard Petty Officer Morgan Gallapis.

Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives and the U.S. Coast Guard are investigating the incident, which began at about 2 p.m. when the 62-foot Sea Bear tugboat started to sink about a mile to a mile-and-a-half south of Barrett Beach.
